Everest
Poker is fairly unique among online poker sites because Everest
Poker has
taken a truly international view of the game,
rather than one that is primarily geared toward English speaking
online poker players. The Everest Poker room says it is dedicated
to “bringing
together hold’em poker enthusiasts from all over the world for an
exciting global gaming experience,” and it has put its money where
its mouth is by offering poker software that is fully localized in
over a dozen
different languages, as well as customer support in 16 languages.
 Downloading the
aforementioned software is simple and quick, with installation taking
place automatically.
All you have to do to get
started is register your personal details to open an Everest Poker
account and choose an avatar to represent you at the tables. There
isn’t a great range of avatars available, and they have no functionality
whatsoever, so an option to “select male at random” or “select female
at random” is handy if you don’t want to spend time on aesthetic preliminaries.
 When you arrive
at the main lobby you will notice that the game here is Texas Hold’em, pure and simple. You can choose to play Limit, Pot
Limit or No Limit in cash games (at stakes starting from $0.02/0.04),
single table tournaments or multi-table tourneys, but there are no
Stud or Omaha games on offer. If you’re a Hold’em purist then this
will undoubtedly be good news, but if you like to dabble in other forms
of poker from time to time then you will have to do it elsewhere.
 The lobby itself
is easy to use and allows you to sort cash games according to type
(limit,
no limit, pot limit), stake, the number of
people seated or waiting, the average pot, number of hands played per
hour and the percentage of players who see the flop. Tournaments can
be sorted according to the buy-in, prize pool and status. You can also
use a handy “Find A Seat” feature which allows you to enter the parameters
of the type of game you want to play and eliminate anything that doesn’t
match from showing on screen.
 The gaming environment
is very nice, though the default layout looks dull and lifeless,
and
that carpet is in dire need of being replaced.
Fortunately you can click on a spanner at the bottom right of the lobby
screen to enter an options menu, and this gives you access to eleven
other environments, so you can change this to suit. Other options allow
you to choose whether you want to see the avatars sitting around the
table, whether you want the screen to appear on top when it’s your
turn to act (handy if you’re multi-tasking) or whether you want profanities
filtered out of the chat window, to name but three.
The cards are clear and detailed (note the differences between picture
cards of the same rank, for example) and audio, whilst being fairly
minimal, adds a little depth to the game. Action buttons are easy to
use, but not necessarily where you might expect them to be, so give
a free table some of your time before putting any money down. A red/yellow/green
time bar appears under each player when it is their turn to act, and
basically forces them to do so within a reasonable amount of time to
keep the game moving.
Other features available Everest Poker include a poker training room
where you play against poker bots to learn the game and hone your skills,
a Summit Points loyalty scheme and a growing number of featured tournaments
that give you a shot at participating in events such as the World Poker
Tour or the World Series of Poker.
 Whilst we have
to admit that the default gaming environment and lack of non-Hold’em games made us wince a bit, Everest Poker really does
have an impressive amount to offer. If you’re a seasoned online poker
player and you think you’ve seen all there is to see, Everest Poker
will prove you wrong. And if you’re brand new to the game, there’s
no better place to get started. We’ll be playing here again, that’s
for sure.
